After working years and years in a cubicle, I started seriously considering opportunities for working from home while being with my kids. So, I stumbled on a friend’s e-mail directing me to her blog. Now, I was not a blogger, nor did I know much about it. However, I was intrigued and started reading a lot about it, research became my friend. Here is what I found: Bloggers use many revenue generating ways. Now please understand me correctly, you have to be willing to commercialize your blog. Some people, many people actually, believe that commercializing your blog is unethical. Here are some of the ways many people have made money:

This is the most common way people make money. It is actually fairly simple, you accept to post ads on your blog site from various programs such as Adsense from Google, Chitika’s eMinimalls, Text link ads and WidgetBucks, Azoogle Ads, Intelli Txt, DoubleClick, Tribal Fusion, AdBrite, Cliksor, AdHearIS, Kanoodle, BlogAds, and many many more…You basically make money by hosting ads on your blog and/or making revenue from commissions on related products and services. So, say you are writing about dieting and diet supplements, well, you could host ads on the various products aiding in weight loss. Get it? not rocket science really but it does require numerous things:
- A passion – People can only write about what they know and like. A blog requries maintenance and dedication. For this, you need to ensure that you write about something you like and can keep writing about. If you know nothing about the stock market, please do not attempt to write about it simply because it is one of the most researched content. You will not be able to keep it up and you will run out of content. Not to mention that your readers will not find your information useful! However, whatever you write about, make sure it is popular, otherwise you will not make any money… Which bring me to my next point:
- Traffic - Being able to generate traffic is one of the ways that you will ensure that revenue keeps coming in. There a number of things to put in place that bring traffic. Because of the importance of this, some bloggers do not try to commercialize their blog for a while, chosing to focus on traffic generating. The bigger the traffic, the bigger the revenue. Simple.
- Research - You will need to research a number of things in order to be successful:
- content related to your subject to ensure you don’t run our of things to say
- ways to make sure your blog can be easily found on the most searched engines
- ways to ensure that the ads on your blog get clicked on
- A plan – Like any business, you need to plan it out. Seem like a lot of work? then, this is not for you! plain and simple. You will need to think of how you will make money with your site (advertisement, sales of products and services, donations …) and you will need to set goals in terms of where you want to be with your site and when. You cannot begin any business without a plan. It’s like shooting in the dark.
This is only some of the ways you can make money working from home. I only touched on a few points because there is so much more to blogging and so many different ways to make money from it. Do your research and find what works for you. Maybe you will find that you are not interested in commercializing your blog, whatever you chose, good luck!

It also helps to be sure to have a way for people to sign up to get notified when the blog is updated.
Thanks!
